Basic download and install instructions

Before downloading, install Java 1.5.0 or later. For Windows, Solaris and Linux, go to [1] or for Mac OS/X, try [2]

Once Java is installed, choose from the following binary versions of the current version of PetriLLD, depending on the target platform:

Older versions can be downloaded from the project page on sourceforge.net

Checking the downloaded files

The downloaded files now come with a signed MD5 sum. It's always a good idea to check that the MD5 sum for the file that you downloaded matches the sum shown in the MD5.asc file.

Also, you can check the signature on the MD5.asc file by GPG in the form

gpg --verify PetriLLD-1.2-bin-1.2.jar.MD5.asc

Note that you may need to retrieve the public key first:

gpg --keyserver www.keyserver.net --recv-key 4c7a59e4

Detailed installation instructions

Installing under Windows

Start by making sure that you have Java 5 installed. Go to the Start menu and click on Run... and then type cmd as the command to run. (On older versions of Windows, you might need to type command.) This should bring up a command window. Enter the following command:

java -version

You should see something like

java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing)

If you don't, or the version number is less than 1.5, you probably need to install a new version of Java. If so, click on the following button to find out how to install the latest version.

Once Java is installed, download the "Win" variant from the PetriLLD downloads page: [3]. Note that the "Win" file contains all binary components and includes an installer. It is not necessary to download anything else.

If Java is properly installed, you should now be able to open the JAR file to start the installer. This file can be deleted once the install has completed.

Installing under Mac OS/X

Start by making sure that you have Java 5 installed. Note that it is not necessary for Java 5 to be preferred; PetriLLD asks for it explicitly.

If you don't have Java 5, go to www.apple.com to get it.

Once Java is installed, download the MacOSX variant from the PetriLLD downloads page: sourceforge.net. Note that the DMG file contains all binary components. It is not necessary to download anything else.

Open the DMG file and drag and drop the PetriLLD application into your Applications folder to complete the install. The DMG file can be deleted once this is done.

Installing under other operating systems

Step 1. Ensure that Java 5 is installed.

Step 2. Download the platform independent binary JAR file.

Step 3. Start Petri-LLD by issuing:

java -jar PetriLLD-20060902.jar
